Order process

  • 1 How can I order a sliding door from you? keyboard_arrow_down
    The easiest way is to use our configurator. A technical clarification is then made directly here and all further processes are mapped automatically. However, our configurator cannot map all applications. You are therefore also welcome to send us your order by email. Please use the corresponding order and inquiry form.

  • 2 What information will I receive after sending my order? keyboard_arrow_down
    Immediately after sending the order, you will receive an automatically generated order confirmation with all technical, design and legal information. Within 48 hours, we will then technically check your order confirmation and send you a detailed order confirmation by e-mail. If you requested a CAD drawing during the order process, you will also receive this with the order confirmation. After receiving the order confirmation you have 24 hours to check it. If we do not receive any feedback within these 24 hours, we will start to integrate your order into the production process. Changes or cancellations are then basically no longer possible. A written release of your order confirmation is only required if you have selected this in the configurator or if your order confirmation contains a corresponding release field.

    After the order has now been integrated into the production process, you will not hear anything further from us for the time being until the planned completion. If there are unforeseeable production delays in individual cases, we will proactively inform you in good time. As soon as your order has been released by our quality assurance department, you will automatically receive a message about the completion of your order and the information that it will now be promptly handed over to our logistics partner.

    As soon as the goods have left our shipping department, we will send you the invoice by e-mail with the corresponding payment deadline. Shortly thereafter, our logistics partner will contact you to arrange a joint appointment with you. The delivery of our sliding doors is always carried out by Hermes Einrichtungs-Service in 2-man handling.

  • 3 Can I change or cancel my order after I have placed it? keyboard_arrow_down
    After you have sent the order, you will receive an automatically generated order confirmation. In order to then check your order technically in detail, we need 48 hours. During this period you have of course the possibility to change or cancel your order.

    After we have checked your order, we will send you an order confirmation. After receiving the order confirmation, you have 24 hours to check it. If we do not receive any feedback within these 24 hours, we will begin to incorporate your order into the production process. Changes or cancellations are then basically no longer possible.

  • 4 When will KUHN start production? keyboard_arrow_down
    The production process usually starts about 72 hours after sending the order. In the meantime, we will check your order carefully and send you more documents about the order process.

  • 5 How long is the delivery time? keyboard_arrow_down
    The delivery time of our individually manufactured sliding doors is not clear at first glance due to the many material combinations. Therefore, we have compiled a detailed list of delivery times to provide you with this information as early as possible during your planning process.

    In addition, during the configuration process, the delivery time will be automatically calculated for you according to your product selection and listed in the summary. After receiving your order, we will schedule the production process and send you the planned delivery week upon receiving the order confirmation.

  • 6 Where can I find the accessories I ordered? keyboard_arrow_down
    Accessories which cannot be pre-assembled by us, such as loose brush seals, fastening material, etc., are well packed in the upper guide rail. Therefore, there is usually no separate box for accessories. Sliding doors ordered without filling material (e.g. BAUSATZ collection) are delivered disassembled. But here, too, all profiles are already precisely cut and provided with the necessary holes/punches.

  • 7 I am not sure if I received the soft stop automatic, how do I find out? keyboard_arrow_down
    We pre-assemble almost all components at the factory. Please check the top of the sliding door leaf for bottom-running systems. The soft stop automatic is located here centrally on the sliding door leaf

    We ship almost all pre-assembled sliding door elements but also all disassembled kits with Hermes Einrichtungs-Service in 2-man handling. Hermes Einrichtungs-Service is the market leader in the delivery of furniture as well as other heavy and sensitive goods. As part of the Hermes Group of Companies and thus of the globally active Otto Group, Hermes Einrichtungs-Service GmbH & Co. KG has been delivering furniture to customers for over 50 years, offering a unique full service. The packages are carried to the place of assembly (max. 5 floors). Please check the packaging or the contents of the package for damage when accepting the goods. In case you find any damage, please refuse acceptance or note the damage on the delivery receipt from our logistics partner.

    Procedure: As soon as the goods have left our shipping department, we will send you the invoice by e-mail with the corresponding payment deadline. Shortly thereafter, our Hermes will contact you to notify a joint appointment with you.All other smaller packages we send with DHL GoGreen.

  • 18 What kind of packaging material does KUHN use? keyboard_arrow_down
    Our products are packaged using the On Demand Packaging® process. We almost completely avoid the use of plastics in our shipping packaging. On Demand Packaging® eliminates the need for pre-made, off-the-shelf cartons that do not fit. Proper sizing reduces material consumption and does not require the use of plastics, Styrofoam or the like to fill empty spaces. You can therefore recycle our shipping packaging free of charge and sustainably via the waste paper recycling process.

Mounting

  • 1 Is the installation of the sliding doors laborious? keyboard_arrow_down
    Unfortunately, there is no general answer to this question and it depends on many factors. We would like to make the assembly as simple and uncomplicated as possible for you and already pre-assemble almost all components (rollers, stoppers, rails, etc.).

    Sliding doors with infill material are of course delivered pre-assembled at the factory. Sliding doors without or prepared for on-site filling material (collection BAUSATZ) are delivered disassembled. But here too, all profiles are already precisely cut to size and provided with the necessary drill holes/punch holes.

    How elaborate the assembly is in the end, however, depends among other things also on the condition of the building substance. We offer already for a small additional price, appropriate fastening material. Alternatively, you can of course also use your own fastening material.

  • 3 Do I need special tools for assembly? keyboard_arrow_down
    You will basically need professional assembly tools. Your standard equipment should include the following: Metre rule, rolling rule, spirit level, Allen key, hammer, cordless screwdriver, various bits and drills. Bits and drill bits. However, you may need more specialized tools due to the nature of the structure.

  • 4 Do I need special fastening material for mounting? keyboard_arrow_down
    No, not really. As a rule, the familiar fastening materials such as screws, nylon dowels, etc. are sufficient. In individual cases, it may be advisable to use a mounting adhesive suitable for the substrate for further fastening. However, you should check this in each individual case.

  • 5 I have not received assembly instructions, where can I find them? keyboard_arrow_down
    The assembly instructions are no longer part of the scope of delivery. We will send them to you digitally upon receipt of the order confirmation.   • 6 How do I attach the upper guide rail to a sloping roof? keyboard_arrow_down
    If you have selected "jamb" as the opening in the configurator, we automatically include special adapters for attaching the guide rail to a sloping roof. These brackets are already pre-assembled at the factory and only need to be adjusted to the appropriate angle of the roof slope. In addition, 2 clip holders are supplied with each adapter. These brackets can later be used to attach the on-site fascia above the guide rail.

  • 7 Does it matter which way around I mount the top rail? keyboard_arrow_down
    In the case of ceiling and integrated ceiling mounting, the rails are basically symmetrical. However, we mark rails and brackets with "front side". Please mount rails and brackets according to these specifications.

  • 1 What do I basically have to consider when planning with your products? keyboard_arrow_down
    The question is not very easy to answer. Since our system is suitable for a wide range of installation situations, the answer can be very specific and related to the application. First of all, it is important for us to convey that the decision for our system does not end in a dead end. Our modular rail system usually always finds a solution and allows us and our customers a high degree of design freedom and planning security. Simply send us an e-mail with your requirement.   • 2 How long will it take for my request to be processed? keyboard_arrow_down
    That depends entirely on how meaningful and extensive the inquiry is. Basically, we always have to read your request technically and evaluate it for us. As a rule, we answer inquiries that reach us by 12 noon on the same day. Requests we receive in the afternoon will be answered until 12 o'clock the following day. In any case, we get back to you promptly, even if we still have questions. Basically you can say, the more concrete and shorter a request is, the faster we answer. Key points in combination with a small hand sketch or a photo are therefore often sufficient for us to be able to process the request.

    We do not have a printed price list. Our sliding doors are always configured individually. This is usually done via our online configurator. If the planned sliding door system does not work via the configurator, we will be happy to check what is technically feasible.   • 5 In what sizes are Kuhn products manufactured? keyboard_arrow_down
    Our sliding doors are always made exactly to measure in millimeter increments. A min. and max. dimension can not be named as a general rule. We can produce very high and wide sliding doors with low weight. Everything that our configurator offers is technically feasible for the time being. However, our configurator only covers a small part of the technical possibilities. For example, we can also produce honeycomb panel sliding doors up to 2000 mm wide and 4000 mm high.

    If the desired size in the configurator is not feasible, you should not immediately despair. We will check what is technically feasible and provide you with a solution proposal in a timely manner.

  • 6 For what sash weight are KUHN sliding doors designed? keyboard_arrow_down
    It depends on the size and material selection. We will provide the exact weight of the sliding door system with our order confirmation. To obtain this information in advance, the following rule of thumb can be used:

    Aluminum frame sliding doors:
    DECOR, FUNCTION, WOOD collection: 5.6 kg/m²
    GLASS collection: 15 kg/m² (6 mm glass thickness), 20 kg/m² (8 mm glass thickness)
    Collection LACK: 7.2 kg/m²
    STONE collection: 9.4 kg/m²

    All-glass sliding doors:
    GLASS collection: 20 kg/m² (8 mm glass thickness), 25 kg/m² (10 mm glass thickness)

    Honeycomb panel sliding doors:
    DECOR, FUNCTION, WOOD collection: 19.8 kg/m²

  • 8 Can I also take a physical look at surfaces and profiles? keyboard_arrow_down
    We will gladly send you free samples of our profiles and surfaces. The samples as well as shipping and return shipping are completely free of charge for you. As a rule, you may keep the samples for 6 weeks for viewing. If you want to keep the samples longer than 6 weeks or even permanently, this is of course also possible. Simply note this in the additional field when ordering. We will then contact you about your request.

  • 9 Which dimensions do I have to communicate to KUHN or enter in the configurator? keyboard_arrow_down
    Width: Measure the finished plastered opening from wall or reveal left to right in 3 places (top/middle/bottom) and enter the smallest dimension in the configurator.

    Height: Measure from the finished plastered ceiling or lintel to the top of the finished floor (OKFF) in 3 places (left/center/right) and enter the least dimension in the configurator.

    Caution: If you find dimensional deviations of more than 5 mm, we need further information from you. To tell us these, please use our measurement sheet.

    We will then calculate the exact dimension and adjust the rail lengths according to your specifications. For arrangements between Two walls, we recommend to adjust the rail lengths according to the determined dimensions above and below. In order to place the rails between the walls without any problems, we also recommend to order them 3 mm shorter. You can adjust the exact dimension of the rail in the configuration process. If this is too uncertain for you, you can also order the rails 100 mm longer and shorten them on site.

  • 12 I get an error message when I open the configurator. What is the reason for this? keyboard_arrow_down
    In most cases, the problem is related to the screen resolution. Please proceed as follows:

    Smartphone/iPhone: Rotate your smartphone/iPhone from vertical to horizontal position. It would be even better if you use a PC/iMac or a tablet/iPad. Unfortunately, a small smartphone/iPhone screen can't really display the configuration processes well. Nevertheless, it works with a smartphone/iPhone in landscape mode.

    Tablet/iPad: Rotate your tablet/iPad from vertical to horizontal position or check the resolution of your tablet/iPad. The screen resolution should be min 600 pixels wide and 1024 pixels high.

    PC/Mac: Maximize the browser window and click on the "Reload page" button. Alternatively, you can also reload your browser session. This usually works with the key combination Ctrl + R (Microsoft) and Command + r (Apple). If the error message is still displayed, please check the screen resolution. The screen resolution should be at least 600 pixels wide and 1024 pixels high.

    We do not have a public exhibition. Our factory exhibition is only available to our customers by appointment from Tuesday - Thursday in the time from 8 - 16 o'clock.     Very many. Almost everything is possible and almost nothing is impossible. To plan with our products, you should already have an idea of what is important to you or what features your new sliding door solution should fulfill. If you are still completely unsure and you feel "overwhelmed" by the possibilities with our products, we understand.

  • 17 In which cases do I use a top-running or bottom-running system? keyboard_arrow_down
    Direction and wrong do not exist here either. However, our experience has formed a clear opinion. Everything that has more than 2 rails should be designed as a bottom-running system.

    Why do we recommend this? This is mainly because bottom-running systems basically run without play in the rail.

    Top-running systems must already be equipped with an accompanying paddle driver in the case of 2-running arrangements. This then ensures that the 1st wing is carried along in the 2nd wing. Works first so far but depending on the wing width and number of wings, the sliding door system then gets relatively much play.

    Achtung: A suction in the building (eg by opening a door) can then lead to the fact that the sliding door wings swing stronger or weaker.

    This works very well. Our modular rail system can be used for the following installation variants:

    Wall mounting
    ceiling mounting
    integrated ceiling mounting

    Our rail system has a height of 60 mm. The width is based on the respective rail combination. The reasonable combinable variants can be found in the respective sections.

    Tip: If you are not yet sure whether you want to use a bottom-running or top-running system, you can also install in advance only the base profile in the intended ceiling recess.

    You can then decide at a later date which variant you would like to use. Also, whether you want to use an aluminum frame, all-glass or honeycomb panel sliding door system, you can decide at a later time after installing the base rail. The entire system is based on each other and can be combined with each other. This offers you a maximum of planning security and design variety.

    Yes, this works. The following possibilities show up:

    You have the option of a top-running system without the base profile. The height of the running rail is then only 32 mm. An overview of the possibilities can be found in the technology compendium.

    You use a bottom-running system with 48 mm rail height. This is our AR20 system. A high-quality system which but price offers the entry into our product world.

    You still use the base rail with 60 mm and let this protrude slightly from the suspended ceiling.

    We generally recommend installing the upper guide rail straight and finishing the gap between the rail and ceiling/ lintel with acrylic. Glazing blocks are very helpful for leveling the ceiling rail. However, these are not part of the scope of delivery.

    If the course of the ceiling deviates very much from left to right, you can also use one of our stick-on glazing bar profiles to cover the gap.

  • 21 Why are there different frame profiles? keyboard_arrow_down
    Each of our frame systems has been developed for a specific application. Goods have profiles that not only provide a visual finish to the filling material, but also offer added functional value in the application.

    Basically, it can be said that frame profiles with integrated stop seal are very suitable for use between two walls and in front of and against a wall.

    The sash then forms a clean and almost tight closure to the wall by means of integrated stop seal.

    In addition, the continuous handle strip forms a high ease of use. The opposite is the case when we place doors running in front of the wall. The handle strip is then covered by the wall on one side. We do not recommend frame systems with integrated handle strip then for this application.

    Frameless systems but also systems with a narrow aluminum frame, where then additionally in the surface a handle is placed, are much better suited for this application.

    Some of our systems do not require additional handles.

    This applies to the following systems AR20, AR30, AR30B, AR30F and WP30. For all other systems, they are in the configuration process corresponding handles to choose from. It is also possible to deselect the handles.

    We then manufacture the sliding doors without handles and recesses. Our handles are basically available in the corresponding profile colors silver, platinum white, black and alpine white. Special colors and finishes are basically available upon request.

    For aluminum frame and all-glass sliding doors, we also offer polished hole drilling in the glass on request. You can determine the diameter and arrangement yourself.

    If none of our handle variants appeals to you and you would like to use a specific handle, please send us an inquiry with a picture of the desired handle variant. If technically possible, we will then be happy to offer you the desired variant.

  • 27 To what dimension are the handles placed on the sliding door and can I also freely choose the distances? keyboard_arrow_down
    Unless otherwise specified, our handles are arranged at a height of 1050 mm. This dimension refers to the upper edge of the finished floor (OKFF) to the center of the handle. Unless otherwise specified, the edge distance is 70 mm from the outer edge of the sash to the center of the handle.

    This dimension is based on the sash projection of 30 mm on the wall surface. If you want a larger sash projection, you should also place the handle accordingly further on the surface.

    Ex. The sash has a sash projection of 30 mm on the wall in the standard configuration process. The handle is arranged by the configurator with 70 mm distance. However, you now want a sash projection of 80 mm. In this case, the handle should be adjusted to 120 mm distance.

    You should provide us with this information when making an inquiry or placing an order.

    The height of the handle can be freely selected on request and thus placed higher or lower. The lateral arrangement can be larger 70 mm but not smaller.

    This is mainly related to the fact that the handle must not be placed too close to the edge area due to a risk of glass breakage.

    This depends entirely on which floor covering is present. Our surface-mounted running rails are already delivered with a corresponding (strongly adhesive) tape. In addition, this can then be fixed with a mounting adhesive approved for the floor covering, depending on the substrate. Our recessed running rails are usually glued in place with the appropriate adhesive for the floor covering. This can be, for example, a tile, parquet, carpet or vinyl flooring adhesive.

    Aluminum frame sliding doors can be divided with muntin profiles. Basically, we distinguish between surface-mounted and infill-dividing muntins. Depending on the selection of the corresponding frame system, we offer different muntin widths. These usually correspond to the face width of the upright frame profiles. Such as AR30 (30 mm profile view, 30 mm muntin width. Glazing bars can be arranged both horizontally and vertically. However, the configurator currently allows only a horizontal one.     Honeycomb panel sliding doors are made of 38 mm thick wooden material construction. The outer layers are each 8 mm thick. The inner core is constructed from a 22 mm thick, very stable honeycomb. In the edge area we process an approx. 50 mm wide bar made of multi-layer birch wood all around. In addition, depending on the width, several aluminum rectangular tubes are inserted in the inner part of the honeycomb and connected to the outer cover layers.   • 3 How many individual packages will I receive upon delivery and how big are they? keyboard_arrow_down
    The number of packages depends on the quantity of door leaves and designs of your sliding door system. We deliver all sliding doors with infill material pre-assembled. So if you order a sliding door with 2 leaves from us, you will receive a total of 3 packages. 2 packages for the respective wings and 1 package for running and guide rails. Accessories that cannot be pre-assembled by us, such as loose brush seals, fastening material, etc., are placed in the upper guide rail. Therefore, there is usually no separate box for accessories. Sliding doors ordered without filling material (BAUSATZ collection) are delivered disassembled. But even here, all profiles are already precisely cut and provided with the necessary holes/punches. Accessories that can already be pre-assembled by us at the factory, we also assemble.

  • 4 My product was delivered damaged, what can I do? keyboard_arrow_down
    Please document the damage with a picture and contact us immediately via email or by phone.

    There is an order label on the package with all the information we need for further assignment and processing.

    We will then check the extent of the damage and will promptly come to you with a solution proposal. Please do not assemble the damaged item and leave it in its original packaging.

  • 5 My shipment is missing items, what can I do? keyboard_arrow_down
    Please check in advance whether the item has already been preassembled or whether it is a loose accessory in the upper guide rail. As a rule, we pre-assemble almost all accessory components, e.g. soft-stop automatic, carriage, stopper, etc. In the case of bottom-running systems, the running and guide rails are packed together. This is not visible at first sight. In many cases, we already deliver top tracks and guide rails as well as the corresponding accessories in advance. Therefore, check whether the accessories have already been received in advance.
